This past week was a joyful time as we provided the proceeds from our Southern Living Showcase Home at Thistle Golf Estates to our charity, Lower Cape Fear Hospice & Life Care Center. For those of you who visited the Showcase Home this spring, a huge THANK YOU, as your donations went directly to support the amazing work of the Lower Cape Fear Hospice & Life Care Center. I’ve gotten the question why did Whitney Blair Custom Homes choose Hospice as their charity of choice? The reason is easily explained by the photo of my mother and me, very shortly before her death in April of 2010. 
Following a major car accident on Hwy 17, she was life flighted to New Hanover Regional Medical Center, and began a road to recovery. However, following several significant & life altering setbacks, the decision was to allow Lower Cape Fear Hospice & Life Care Center to take care of her. While there only a few days prior to passing, the care & attention that my mother (and our entire family) received was remarkably caring, compassionate, and genuine. I have often told others that the nurses working there are truly angels on earth as they have a special calling for such stressful and emotionally filled work. Hospice facilities are often misunderstood and conversations concerning the work and services they provide can be awkward and often avoided until too late for a family member in need of their services. Despite the circumstances we faced in my mother’s passing, Lower Cape Fear Hospice & Life Care Center made the most traumatic event of our lives easier to face and cope with knowing the loving care that she received.
